  About this view
---------------

This camera gives a wide panorama of Mt Fuji from the Lake Yamanaka area, about 15 km from the summit. Where the lakeshore cameras frame the mountain tightly over the water, this feed takes in a broader sweep of sky and foreground, which makes it particularly good for judging the overall weather picture: you can see not just whether the summit is clear but how much cloud is moving through the whole basin.

That wide framing is useful for planning. A tight camera can show a clear cone seconds before a cloud bank drifts in from outside the frame; on a panorama you see the cloud coming. The viewing rhythm is the same as the rest of the north side: dawn to about 9 a.m. is the high-probability window, October through March are the clearest months, and summer afternoons are the least reliable time of the entire year. Check it together with the two lakeshore cameras for the fullest picture of conditions at Yamanakako.

  Frequently Asked Questions
--------------------------

Is Mt Fuji usually visible from this camera? It follows the Lake Yamanaka pattern: dependable in the early morning, especially from October through March, and much patchier on summer afternoons. The wide framing means you will often see partial views, with the summit clear while cloud crosses the lower slopes or the reverse.

When is the best time to catch a clear view on this cam? Early morning, from first light to about 9 a.m. The panorama also makes late-day checks more informative than on tight cameras: if the sky around the mountain is clean at dusk, the following dawn has good odds of starting clear.

What is the advantage of a wide panorama view? Context. You see the cloud around the mountain, not just the mountain, so you can tell whether a clear summit is stable or about to be swallowed, and whether grey conditions are a passing bank or a settled layer. For deciding when to leave for a viewpoint, that context is often worth more than a close-up.

I am heading to Lake Yamanaka, which cam should I trust? Use this panorama to judge the overall sky, then confirm on one of the lakeshore cameras for the exact water-level view. If both agree the summit is sharp, go now; morning windows on the north side close from mid-morning onward more often than they open.
