  About this view
---------------

This camera watches Mt Fuji from the Fuyodai area on the eastern side of Lake Yamanaka, about 14 km from the summit, and is run by the cable television station in neighbouring Oshino. Yamanakako is the closest of the Fuji Five Lakes to the mountain, so the cone appears larger here than from Kawaguchiko, filling the frame above the water with its long, even slopes.

Lake Yamanaka sits at almost 1,000 m elevation, the highest of the Five Lakes, which gives it cool, clear air and some of the region's most reliable dawn views. The camera streams around the clock, and it earns that in winter: this side of the lake is known for cold, sharp mornings when the snowcap catches the first light, and on some winter dawns the low sun tints the snow pink. As everywhere on the north side, sunrise to about 9 a.m. is the dependable window, with October through March the strongest months.

  Frequently Asked Questions
--------------------------

Is Mt Fuji usually visible from Lake Yamanaka? Lake Yamanaka is the closest lake to the mountain, about 14 km from the summit, and sits at nearly 1,000 m elevation where the air stays cool and clear. Early morning is by far the most reliable window, and the cold months from October through March give the highest clearance rates.

When is the best time to catch a clear view on this cam? Dawn. The lake's altitude makes for cold, crisp mornings, and on clear winter dawns the first light can tint the snowcap pink before the sun fully rises. By mid-morning the usual cap cloud risk returns, so an early check beats a midday one in every season.

I am heading to Lake Yamanaka, can this cam tell me whether to go now? Yes. The feed shows the mountain over the lake in real time, so a sharp summit means the lakeside viewpoints and the swan boats will have Fuji as a backdrop right now. Check the visibility forecast above as well if your visit is more than an hour or two away.

How is this different from the other Lake Yamanaka cameras? Several cameras ring this lake. This one watches from the Fuyodai area on the eastern side and runs 24 hours a day, while the others stream from different points on the shore. When one angle is blocked by local cloud, another often still has the mountain, so compare them before deciding the day is lost.
