About this view --------------- This is the third camera angle carried on this site from Mt Shichimen, the sacred 1,989-meter peak of Nichiren Buddhism that faces Mt Fuji from about 25 km due west. The summit area around the Keishin-in temple, active since 1297, looks straight across the Fuji River valley at the mountain, and the cameras stream that east-facing view around the clock. The west side rewards early risers above all. Sunrise happens behind Mt Fuji from this vantage, so dawn turns the mountain into a glowing silhouette, and on the coldest mornings from October through February a sea of clouds can flood the valley below, leaving the two peaks standing alone above it. Later in the day the view becomes a straightforward clear-air look at Fuji's western flank. With three angles from the same mountain, a quick comparison tells you whether any cloud in the frame is local to one lens or genuinely covering the mountain. Conditions match the other Shichimensan feeds: the high west-side vantage clears valley haze, dawn is the prime hour, and cold-season mornings are the most reliable. Because the west side clears on a different rhythm from the lake and coast cameras, this feed is always worth a check on a grey morning elsewhere. When is the best time to catch a clear view on this cam? Pre-dawn through sunrise, when Fuji stands backlit against the rising sun and valley inversions are most likely. October through February give the clearest and most dramatic mornings of the year from this peak. What am I looking at besides Mt Fuji? The deep valley between the peaks carries the Fuji River, and on cold mornings it can fill entirely with cloud. The camera stands on Mt Shichimen itself, home to the Keishin-in temple and one of the most important pilgrimage mountains in Nichiren Buddhism. Which of the three Shichimensan cams should I check?
