The elevated angle puts Lake Kawaguchi below in the foreground with Mt Fuji rising across the lake behind. This is the only elevated panorama in the live cam set and the most useful view for understanding the geography of the Fuji Five Lakes basin in one frame. From this height, low-lying fog and inversion layers over the lake become visible at sunrise as a sea of cloud below the camera. October through January give the highest probability of capturing this "Unkai" sea-of-clouds phenomenon. The elevated angle keeps Fuji clearly above the haze line that often obscures the mountain from lakeshore viewpoints, so on partly hazy days this camera shows a clean summit while the lake-level cams below show murk.
