The mountain stands about 50 km to the north-east, and the classic composition here layers the view: Shimizu Port and the shoreline below, the open water of Suruga Bay in the middle distance, and Fuji rising beyond it all. At 50 km this is a distance view, so clarity of the air decides everything. Crisp winter days are the prime season, when the snowcapped mountain floats above the bay in sharp detail; in humid summer weather the mountain often fades into haze even under blue sky.
