    Mt Fuji Live Cams
=================

Mount Fuji looks different from every angle, and clouds, light, and seasons can change a sweeping view into a closed-in haze within an hour. We mirror 16 live YouTube streams covering the most reliable public vantage points around the mountain so you can check conditions in real time before you travel.

Northern cameras around the Fuji Five Lakes (Kawaguchiko, Yamanakako, Motosu, Shoji) tend to clear earlier in the morning. Southern cameras (Hakone, Enoshima, Fujinomiya) catch the mountain backlit by the sun. Each camera page below shows today's visibility forecast for that side of Fuji, the best times to watch, and a description of what the framing actually shows.

  Frequently Asked Questions
--------------------------

   How do I check if Mt Fuji is visible right now? Open any of the live cams on this page. Each one streams a different side of the mountain in real time, so pick the camera closest to where you are or where you are headed. If the summit is sharp and cloud-free in the feed, Fuji is visible from that area this minute. When you are unsure, check two or three cameras facing the same side, since a single cam can be blocked by local cloud while the mountain is clear a short distance away.

   Can I trust a live cam to decide whether to travel to see Mt Fuji? Yes, for confirming conditions right now. The catch is that Fuji can clear or cloud over within an hour. The reliable method is three steps: use the 10-day visibility forecast to pick a promising day, check the morning weather for the area you are visiting, then open the live cam just before you leave to confirm the mountain is actually out. The live cam is the final check, not the only one.

   If Mt Fuji is clear on the cam now, will it still be visible when I arrive? Not guaranteed. Mornings are the most stable, and a clear summit at dawn often holds for a couple of hours before cloud builds on the cone by midday. The further you are travelling, the more conditions can shift on the way. If your viewpoint is more than an hour away, recheck the cam before you commit, and remember that afternoon clearings are shorter-lived than morning ones.

   How often is Mt Fuji actually visible? Far less often than most visitors expect. The mountain creates its own cloud and is frequently hidden even on otherwise sunny days. Clear views are much more common in the cold, dry months than in summer, with winter clearance rates roughly twice those of summer, and early morning is by far the most reliable window. This is exactly why checking a live cam before you travel saves a wasted trip.

   What is the best time of day to catch a clear view on the cams? Early morning, from about 30 minutes before sunrise to two hours after, gives the highest chance of a clear summit. Humidity drops overnight, daytime thermal updrafts have not started, and the cap cloud that often forms by mid-morning is usually still absent. If you are planning around the cams, aim your visit at dawn, especially between December and February when sunrises are clearest.

   Why is Mt Fuji hidden even when the sky looks clear? Fuji is tall enough to make its own weather. Moist air rising up the slopes condenses into the famous cap cloud, and standing lenticular clouds form when westerly winds hit the cone, so a blue sky overhead does not mean the summit is showing. Haze can also wash the mountain out from the more distant viewpoints. That gap between a clear sky and a visible Fuji is the whole reason a live cam beats guessing from a weather app.

   Which live cam should I check for my trip? Match the camera to where you are going. North-side cams cover the Fuji Five Lakes (Kawaguchiko, Yamanakako, Motosu, Shoji, Oshino) plus Chureito Pagoda and tend to clear earliest in the morning. South-side cams cover Hakone, Fujinomiya and the Shonan coast at Enoshima, where the mountain is backlit and afternoons can be better. The single west-side cam at Mt Shichimen often differs from both. Elevated cams such as the ropeway and FUJIYAMA Tower can see a clean summit over low haze when the lakeshore cams below are murky.

   Are the live cams real-time and always on? Yes. Every feed is a continuous 24/7 YouTube live stream, so what you see is the mountain right now, including overnight. Fuji is only properly visible in daylight, though on clear nights with a full moon you can sometimes make out the silhouette. Streams occasionally drop for maintenance; if one shows as unavailable, refresh after a few minutes.
