About this view --------------- This camera looks south at Mt Fuji from Oishi Park on the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchi, about 19 km from the summit. Fuji sits roughly 30 degrees above the horizon, large enough that the summit crater, snow lines, and symmetrical lower slopes are all visible when conditions allow. The foreground is the lake itself plus Oishi Park's seasonal beds (lavender in summer, kochia red in autumn, bare in winter). Visibility at this vantage is most reliable from sunrise to about 9 a.m., before thermal updrafts and afternoon haze build up on the cone. The Misaka mountains behind the camera shelter the lake from north winds, so the surface is usually glass-flat at dawn, which is when the "Sakasa Fuji" upside-down reflection appears and signals an exceptionally clear day. From mid-morning onward, a flat lenticular cap often forms on the summit and lingers through the afternoon. More often than not in the morning. Lake Kawaguchi is the anchor point for our north-side score, and between August 2025 and July 2026 it scored visible (8 or higher) on 63% of mornings and 52% of afternoons. Winter is the sure bet, with 82 to 100% of mornings visible from November through February. June (27%) and October (32%) were the weakest months in the archive. The Misaka mountains shelter the lake, so dawn is often glass-flat, and when the upside-down "Sakasa Fuji" reflection appears it signals an exceptionally clear day. What is in the frame besides Mt Fuji? The full width of Lake Kawaguchi, with Oishi Park's flower beds along the bottom of the frame: lavender in summer, red kochia in autumn, bare beds in winter. On glass-flat dawns the upside-down "Sakasa Fuji" reflection appears on the water, and from mid-morning a flat lenticular cap often settles on the summit. Summer is the trade-off between foreground and mountain: from June to August the north side scored visible on 38% of mornings but 17% of afternoons in our archive, so the lavender weeks are the least reliable for the peak behind them. How is this view different from the Fujikawaguchiko cam across the lake? Both look south at Fuji over Lake Kawaguchi, from opposite shores. This Oishi Park camera stands on the north-western shore about 19 km from the summit with the park beds in front of it; the Fujikawaguchiko camera watches from the town side to the south-east, about 16 km out, with the Kawaguchi-Ohashi bridge and the lakeshore hotels in view. Cloud often sits over one corner of the lake and not the other, so when the two feeds disagree the mountain is usually out from somewhere on the shore. Where exactly is the Oishi Park camera? The camera is mounted in Oishi Park on the northwestern shore of Lake Kawaguchi, in Fujikawaguchiko town, Yamanashi prefecture.
