  About this view
---------------

This camera looks west from the Hayama coast, the quiet seaside town on the Miura Peninsula south of Kamakura, and takes in one of the classic sea views of Mt Fuji: the mountain rising beyond Sagami Bay nearly 80 km away, with Enoshima island and the small offshore Yujiro Lighthouse in the frame. Hayama is old money by the sea, home to an imperial villa and a sailing harbour, and this is the view its beaches are known for.

At this distance the mountain is a shape on the horizon rather than a wall of rock, and the air decides whether you see it at all. Winter is prime season: cold, dry days give a sharp blue-and-white Fuji over the water, and clear evenings silhouette the cone against the sunset, the scene that fills the Shonan coast with photographers and picnickers alike. In humid summer weather the mountain often disappears for days. If this feed shows Fuji over the bay, every beach from Kamakura to Zushi has the view at that moment.

  Frequently Asked Questions
--------------------------

Is Mt Fuji usually visible from Hayama? Fuji stands nearly 80 km away across Sagami Bay, so haze matters more than cloud. Cold, dry winter days are reliable, often keeping the mountain visible from sunrise to sunset; in humid summer spells it can stay hidden for days. If the feed shows the cone over the water, the whole coast has the view.

When is the best time to catch a clear view on this cam? Winter, and especially winter evenings. The sun sets close to the mountain from this coast in the cold months, and the silhouette of Fuji against an orange sky over the bay is the signature Shonan scene. Mornings after a windy or rainy night are the other high-probability window.

What is the small lighthouse in the view? The Yujiro Lighthouse, a small offshore beacon named after the actor and singer Yujiro Ishihara, whose brother, the author and politician Shintaro Ishihara, had deep ties to Hayama. Together with Enoshima island it gives this sea view its recognisable foreground.

I am visiting Kamakura or Enoshima, does this cam apply to me? Yes. Hayama, Kamakura and Enoshima all face the same stretch of Sagami Bay, so this feed is a good proxy for the Fuji view from the whole area, including the Shichirigahama beach camera a little up the coast. A clear evening feed is your cue to be on the sand for sunset.
