It is the closest of all the live cams to the mountain itself: the summit is only about 11 km north-west, putting it 40 degrees or more above the horizon. Because the camera sits this high on Fuji's own slope, there is no lake, no city, no distant valley in the frame, just the mountain itself rising immediately above, with seasonal forest filling the foreground. The high elevation puts this camera above many of the haze layers that affect city and lakeshore viewpoints, so clear-day visibility from here is exceptional. Early morning and late afternoon both produce strong lighting on the cone. Winter snow covers the entire foreground for the most dramatic frames. The trade-off: the high elevation means the camera itself can sit inside cloud during low-altitude storm systems, and summer afternoons frequently see thunderstorm cloud building directly above the lens.
