  About this view
---------------

This is the official camera of Fumotoppara, the vast grass campsite on the Asagiri plateau at the mountain's western foot, about 15 km from the summit in the highlands of Fujinomiya. The view is one of the purest anywhere: a huge open meadow with nothing between the grass and the mountain, no town, no wires, no lake, just the full sweep of the cone from base to summit. It is this composition that has made Fumotoppara the most famous camping destination in Japan.

Because the camera faces east, the sun rises from behind the mountain, so dawn here means Fuji as a vast silhouette against the brightening sky before the light swings around to model the cone through the day. Late afternoon gives the opposite: warm western light full on the mountain. The plateau sits around 800 m, and cold, clear winter mornings, sometimes with frost or mist lying over the meadow below the cone, are the signature scene. As on the rest of the mountain, summer afternoons are the least reliable, with cloud building over the summit by midday.

  Frequently Asked Questions
--------------------------

Is Mt Fuji usually visible from Fumotoppara? The campsite has a completely unobstructed line to the mountain about 15 km away, so whenever Fuji is out, Fumotoppara sees all of it. Cold months are the dependable season and mornings beat afternoons; in summer, cloud typically claims the summit by midday even on fine days.

When is the best time to catch a clear view on this cam? Dawn and late afternoon. At sunrise the mountain stands as a silhouette with the sun climbing from behind it; in the last hours of daylight the western sun lights the whole cone directly. Winter mornings with frost or low mist on the meadow are the views this campsite is famous for.

Should I check this cam before booking a night at Fumotoppara? Use it together with the forecast above. The feed shows you today's reality, and the mountain's pattern favours winter for clear mornings. Campers should note the plateau turns genuinely cold on the clearest nights; the crisp air that reveals Fuji is the same air that frosts your tent.

Can I visit without camping? Fumotoppara is primarily a campsite, and day visits are possible, but the same west-side view can also be enjoyed from public spots along the Asagiri plateau nearby. If you only want the view, a clear feed here means the whole plateau road has the mountain in full.
