 About this view
---------------

This camera looks north-east at Mt Fuji from Fujinomiya City on the south-western foot of the mountain, about 18 km from the summit. Because the position is so close to the cone, Fuji fills more of the frame here than from any cam other than Yamanakako. The southern face appears symmetrical with the Hoei Crater (formed by Fuji's most recent eruption in 1707) visible as a distinct notch about two-thirds of the way up the cone's right side.

The south-facing slopes lose snow first in spring, so the snow-capped silhouette is reliably visible from December through April but increasingly bare from May onward. Summer afternoons frequently bring thunderstorms that build directly over the cone, so morning viewing is essential here. The Hoei Crater notch is most visible when the cone has a partial snow line, typically in late autumn and early spring when fresh snow on the upper cone makes the bare crater stand out.

  Frequently Asked Questions
--------------------------

Is Mt Fuji usually visible from Fujinomiya? At about 18 km from the summit on the south-western foot, Fuji fills much of the frame here. The snow-capped silhouette is reliable from December through April and increasingly bare from May onward. Summer afternoons frequently bring thunderstorms that build directly over the cone, so morning is essential: a clear early feed is far more dependable than a midday one.

When is the best time to catch a clear view on the Fujinomiya cam? Morning, before afternoon convection builds storm cloud over the summit. December through April give the snow-capped views and the Hoei Crater notch stands out most when fresh snow on the upper cone frames the bare crater, typically late autumn and early spring.

I am heading to Fujinomiya, can this cam tell me whether to go now? Yes. The camera looks at the same close, symmetrical southern face you would see from the city, so a clear summit in the feed means Fuji is out right now. In summer especially, check in the morning before storm cloud builds, and cross-check today's forecast above before planning around it.

Why is the Hoei Crater visible from this side? The Hoei Crater formed on the east-southeastern flank of Mt Fuji during the 1707 Hoei eruption. From the south-western Fujinomiya angle, the crater appears as a distinct notch about two-thirds of the way up the cone's right side. It is one of the most visible geological features of Fuji.
